The Miles Community College Center for Distance Education and Community Outreach (DECO) will host the class “EPA-Authorized Renovation, Repair, and Painting Course”, Tuesday, May 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the MCC Career & Technical Building room 401.  Dr. Mike Vogel will be the instructor for this course.  Pre-registration is required by May 20th.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) / U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) joint Lead; Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program Rule (RRP) will affect paid renovators who work in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities, including: renovation contractors, maintenance workers in multi-family housing, painters, and other specialty trades. Under the rule, child-occupied facilities are defined as residential, public or commercial buildings where children under age six are present on a regular basis.

The course takes 8-12 hours total (depending on class size). Classroom Training (including an Exam) requires 6-8 hours of the total time for the course, and 2-4 hours are set aside for Hands-on Skill Sets in the Lab (11 skills to be evaluated by the instructor). Completion of the course will register your name with EPA as a Certified Lead; Renovation, Repair, and Painting Professional. The company you work for, whether that is a large entity or you are simply a sole proprietor, will still need to register as a Certified Firm with EPA.

Training co-sponsored by MSU Extension and Miles Community College Workforce Development.
